Why So Many Teens and Kids Have Acne

Why is it that with all the stresses kids have to deal with in puberty, they also have to deal with the embarrassment of serious skin problems such as acne vulgaris. It is usually confined to the face, neck, shoulders, check and back.

I know most of you have heard that acne is caused by eating greasy foods like french fries and pizza, chocolate, and soda, but that simply is NOT true. It also is NOT true that acne is caused by wearing make. However, if kids wear makeup, it should be "oil-free" so that it will not clog the pores, or it should say it is "nonacnegenic", which means it will not cause acne.

The basic cause is because of the hormone changes that go with puberty. As kids bodies begin to develop, these hormones stimulate the sebaceous glands to make extra sebum. These glands can become overactive and when they do and there is too much sebum, the excess oil clogs the pores and leads to acne. Stress can make acne worse.
